Mathematics Magazine Editor Search

The MAA seeks to identify candidates to succeed Walter Stromquist as Editor of Mathematics Magazine when his term expires in December 2014.

Published five times a year in February, April, June, October, and December, Mathematics Magazine offers lively exposition on a wide range of mathematical topics, presented in an appealing expository style accessible to both students and professional mathematicians.

The job of Mathematics Magazine Editor typically requires a time commitment of about three days per week. Duties extend throughout the year. Some support, largely in the form of course release time, is available.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, the names of three references, and a statement of interest containing a vision of and ideas about the journal. Nominations are welcome.

Review of applicants will begin March 15, 2013, with appointment as Editor-Elect to commence on January 1, 2014. The five-year editorial term runs January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2019.

Questions about the nature of the position and its workload can be addressed to Frank Farris (FFarris@scu.edu) or Walter Stromquist (mathmag@maa.org); questions about MAA support for the editor’s work can be addressed to the MAA’s Director of Publications, Ivars Peterson (ipeterson@maa.org).

If you would like to make a nomination, please submit the name along with a paragraph about why you think the person would be an outstanding editor. All nominations and inquiries should go to Jennifer Quinn (University of Washington-Tacoma), chair, Mathematics Magazine Editor Search Committee (jjquinn@u.washington.edu). Applications should be submitted to secretary@maa.org.
