Kenneth Allen Ross, 1995-1996 MAA President

Kenneth Allen Ross is a professor emeritus at the University of Oregon who has been active in MAA committees and editorial work.

Presidency: 1995-1996

In July 1996, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) requested an MAA committee to work with the NCTM Commission on the Future of the NCTM Standards over the next three years. Ross appointed the President's Task Force on the NCTM Standards, which included H.L. Alder, D.T. Haimo, and H.O. Pollak, among others. As chair of the task force, Ross has written several reports on the NCTM standards.

Ross is a professor emeritus in the University of Oregon mathematics department. He retired from teaching after the spring of 2000. His main research interests are in harmonic analysis and probability.

Ross has been active in the MAA as secretary starting in 1983, as associate editor of Mathematics Magazine, and on the Committee on the Silver and Gold Banquet, the ad hoc Planning Committee for the MAA Centennial (2015), the Spectrum book series editorial board, and the 2008 Bylaw Revision Task Force. He won the Pacific Northwest Section's Cerficiate of Meritorious Service in 2001 and the MAA's 2010 Gung and Hu Distinguished Service to Mathematics Award.
