MAA Diversity Initiative Grants

by Jean Bee Chan
Sonoma State University

The Committee on Undergraduate Student Activities and Chapters (CUSAC) of the MAA administers the Diversity Initiative program to help departments send students from underrepresented groups to the joint mathematics meetings. This year we have received limited funds to support this effort for the January 2010 Joint Mathematics Meetings (JMM) in San Francisco, California.

If you are a faculty member planning to take undergraduate students to the joint meetings, and some or all of them are from groups that are under- represented in the mathematical sciences, please consider applying for one of these mini grants. CUSAC can award a grant of up to $500 per institution for student travel, lodging, registration, and food. Presentation of a paper or poster is not required. Grantees are to pay for travel expenses first and apply for reimbursement after the Joint Mathematics Meetings.

Interested faculty members (not students) please email Jean Bee Chan of Sonoma State at jbchan1@yahoo.com for an application form as soon as possible. Applications may be filed by email. The deadline is November 2, 2009.

Please feel free to share this message with others who may be interested.

Due to limited funds, priority is given to institutions within about 200 miles of San Francisco. Only one mini grant per institution.
