NARRATOR: The setting of our first skit is an office where 4graduate students share the same phone and the same advisor. Theadvisor is David. The students are Mary, John, Mark and Erik. It's a warm Saturday and there's a continuing difficulty with theair conditioner in the adjacent room which houses computers andperipherals - The air conditioner has the potential to leak andcause problems. Everyone in the office has access to this room andis aware of the potential problem. Our story opens with theringing of the telephone as David calls. [Narrator makes ringingnoise.]
MARY: Hello?
DAVID: Hello, Mary. Is Mark there?
MARY: No. . .
DAVID: Is John there?
MARY: No, he's not here either. . .
DAVID: Is Erik there?
MARY: No, is there anything I can do, David? DAVID: No, I'll just call back later. [click.]
[Mark joins Mary onstage as the Narrator speaks.
NARRATOR: Two hours later . . . [Narrator makes ringing noise.]
MARY: Hello?
DAVID: Hello, Mary. Is Mark there?
MARY: Yes, just a minute.
MARK: Hello?
DAVID: Oh, good, I'm glad I caught you. Could you go check theair conditioner overflow tub in the computer room and tell me howfull it is?
[Mark quickly leaves his seat and makes motions as though openinga door and peering into another room.]
NARRATOR: A minute later . . .
MARK: It's only got a little water in it.
DAVID: Thanks a lot, Mark. I was really worried about it. [click]
NARRATOR: Since Mark, Mary and David are all quite friendly and ona first name basis, we invite you to discuss how this should behandled the next time they meet.
