and the AMS Notices. The location will be announced prior to the
meeting.
This year's meeting promises to be another great meeting, with talks by
Laszlo Lovasz from Microsoft and Keith Devlin talking on "The
Mathematics of Everyday Language," among many others. We hope
you can join us.
The deadline for submission of abstracts for
contributed paper sessions is September 28. The deadline to register
and qualify for the hotel room lottery is November 4, while the

Survey on MAA Professional Development
The MAA Strategic Planning Working Group on Professional Development
wants to hear from you and your colleagues. The
Strategic Planning Group is "charged to examine issues, opportunities,
and obstacles [in Professional Development]
that impact the MAA’s ability to fulfill its mission and reach its
vision" and will make a final report to the Executive Committee and
Board of Governors next year.
We ask that you take a few
minutes to respond to a web survey, available at www.maa.org/data/pd-survey.html. Please forward this
request on to your colleagues, and ask that they respond as well.
Undergraduate Poster Session in San Antonio
The
January 2006 Undergraduate Research Poster Competition

Math Horizons: A Pleasure Worth Sharing
The new issue of Math Horizons should be arriving in your mailbox any
day now (you are a subscriber, right?). The new issue features articles
on the CBS crime drama, "NUMB3RS," articles on mathematical induction,
an article on operations research, a new proof of a central result in
number theory,...well, you get the idea, lots of great stuff. We hope
you'll share your copy with your colleagues and students, and let them
know what a great deal a Math Horizons subscription is.
The complete table of contents of the September issue, and lots of
other information on Math Horizons, can be found at www.maa.org/mathhorizons/.
