Meet the Speaker

At the 2009 Joint Meetings in Washington, DC, Nathaniel Dean gave the MAA Lecture for Students on some elementary problems in discrete mathematics that remain unsolved. Ivars Peterson gave the MAA Invited Address on Geometreks, seeing mathematics all around. Both were available for half hour Meet the Speaker events held in the MAA Student Hospitality Center. The Meet the Speaker events provide opportunities for undergraduate students to personally interact with speakers. These are held at winter Joint Mathematics Meetings and MathFest. Questions asked by the students ranged from inquiries about the speakers' experiences as undergraduate and graduate students to pertinent questions about the topics of the talks. The MAA Committee on Undergraduate Student Activities and Chapters gratefully acknowledges Nate Dean and Ivars Peterson and thanks them for the opportunities afforded undergraduates.
