To help meeting participants get the most out of their trip to San Diego, the MAA has created the 2008 Joint Mathematics Meetings Wiki. The Wiki gives attendees a forum where they can not only obtain news of meeting events and advice on things to do in San Diego but also share information with one another.
The JMM Wiki has pages and links that give detailed program information, including times and dates of invited addresses, contributed paper sessions, student events, and exhibit hall functions. In addition, the Wiki features information about the "Found Math" photo contest, a preview of the world premiere of Hard Problems, and a link to podcasts with four of the invited speakers. It also includes a full MAA/AMS committee meeting schedule.
Updated daily, the Today's Featured Events page will highlight noteworthy happenings at the JMM. The Wiki will also provide access to a "live" meeting blog, hosted by the AMS.
Under "Local Information," visitors to the site will find a long list of San Diego's best restaurants, along with information about the city's many museums and other points of interest. Interactive maps that allow participants to easily find their way around San Diego point out some of the city's more popular destinations.
The JMM Wiki is open to contributions and comments from meeting participants who log in with the official Wiki password. If you find a restaurant that you particularly like, go to the Restaurants, Nightclubs, Bars page and leave a note passing on the good news. If you want to share a ride to the airport, feel free to post your request on the Ride Share Board. Or if your company is hosting an exhibit hall event, place a message on the Exhibit Hall Events page.
Meeting participants should look for the JMM Wiki password in an e-mail in the coming weeks, or in print copies of the meeting program. This is only the second meeting for which the MAA has maintained a Wiki (MathFest 2007, San Jose). We hope that all JMM participants will take advantage of this new feature.
