GIMPS finds 39th Mersenne Prime

The Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search has once again had a sucess. On December 6, GIMPS announced that Michael Cameron, a 20-year-old GIMPS volunteer, discovered the 39th (and largest to date) Mersenne prime. Cameron used his PC and software by George Woltman and Entropia, Inc. to conduct his part of the search. The new Mersenne prime is 213466917 - 1.
