A School Inspired by Math Circles

In the fall of 2015, a small, independent school will open in downtown San Francisco: the Juilliard of the mathematically precocious.

Proof School, as it will be called, will open with 45 students in three grades, hoping to expand to 250 students in grades 6-12 within the decade. Inspired by math circles and conceived as a way to feed the mathematical appetite and nurture the mathematical talent of the area's youth, Proof School will devote afternoons to the study of the mathematical sciences.

Still raising funds to make the school a reality, Proof School's founders have plans to prioritize recruitment of girls, be elite but not elitist, and find a humanities dean who isn't afraid to "stand up to math nerds.”
