Digital Service to the Mathematical Community

University of Saskatchewan professor Egan Chernoff sees participation in social media as a new form of service—to the academic community, one's university and department, and the public at large—that may be expected of university professors in the not too distant future.

Chernoff, a.k.a. MatthewMaddux, uses social media platforms—Google+, Tumblr, Delicious, StumbleUpon, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Academia, Second Life—to spread information: He acts as a “digital curator” for mathematics education, having created a digital repository for online information on Tumblr and posting to his blog, MatthewMaddux Education, between fifty and a hundred times per month.
