McKellar Talks New Book and Conquering Math Phobia on The Today Show

“The Wonder Years” and “West Wing” actress and mathematician talked about her latest book, Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape, and shared tips to help parents get their kids interested in math on a recent episode of The Today Show.

McKellar’s described math as “a foreign language and if it’s not translated properly it stays foreign, and that’s scary.” She advised parents to engage with children, even at the toddler age, by pointing out math in everyday life and to brush up on their own math skills.

McKellar graduated summa cum laude in mathematics from UCLA and co-authored the mathematical physics theorem Chayes-McKellar-Winn Theorem with Lincoln Chayes (UCLA) and fellow student Brandy Winn. Girls Get Curves is her fourth book after Math Doesn't Suck (2007), Kiss My Math (2008) and Hot X: Algebra Exposed (2010), all New York Times bestsellers.
