Success in Math Depends on Culture, Says Pollack

Writing in The New York Times, creative writing professor (and Yale physics major) Eileen Pollack explores a recurrent question: "Why are there still so few women in science?"

Pollack addresses how The Big Bang Theory propagates gender stereotypes, reports the experiences of female professors and students in STEM fields, summarizes the results of research studies, and challenges ways skeptics have tried to satisfactorily explain away the relative dearth of women in STEM.

Read the piece or listen to Pollack talk to All Things Considered's Arun Rath.
