This Is Your Brain on Beautiful Math

When viewed by mathematicians, equations like Euler's identity elicit the same neurological responses as artistic or musical masterpieces.

In a study conducted at University College London, researchers asked 15 mathematicians to rate the beauty of 60 equations. When the mathematicians were shown the equations while in a brain scanner, the fMRI detected greater surges of activity for the equations deemed more beautiful.

Which equation did the mathematicians in the study judge the fairest of them all? Read the BBC's coverage to find out.
