Writing for the Huffington Post, 19-year-old Alexis Jane Torre explains why she studies math, despite the subject's difficulty for her.
Torre has learned a lot from math, transferable lessons like being open to alternate methods of solution and taking advantage of available assistance. Another of math's lessons involves love. Torre writes:
Studying math has taught me what it means to really love something. What it means to do something because I really want to, not just because I'm good at it or because I have to. What it means to decide that the hard work is truly worth it.
