What Statistics Can Do for Sports

Now that Nate Silver is done serving as "the New York Times’ in-house statistical warlock" and has signed a deal with ESPN, Slate's Josh Levin has high hopes for progress at the intersection of statistics and sport.

Perhaps Silver could fix the college football or tennis rankings, Levin suggests, or "do a deep dive on the stats of known dopers across a bunch of sports and determine whether there are statistical techniques that could transform our steroid witch hunts into informed steroid witch hunts."
