What's Your Wallet State?

Roots of Unity blogger Evelyn Lamb gives the Cliffs Notes version of a paper in which mathematicians use Markov chains and numerical linear algebra to determine the most likely set of coins in your wallet.

Lamb reports the conclusions Lara Pudwell (Valparaiso University) and Eric Rowland (University of Quebec) reached, but says that "the assumptions and methods that go into the analysis are more interesting than the conclusions by themselves."

Want to know if you're a "big spender" or a "quarter hoarder" and what this part of your identity means for the coin combinations in your wallet (your "wallet state")? Read Pudwell and Rowland's paper or Lamb's recap
