Your Pronouns Give You Away

Writing in Scientific American, Patrick Juola explains how he used feature analysis to advance the argument that it was J. K. Rowling who, under the pen name Robert Galbraith, wrote The Cuckoo's Calling.

Juola's Java Graphical Authorship Attribution Program (JGAAP) takes a sample of writing and determines, based on similarity of chosen features, which of a given set of authors most likely wrote the sample text.

Juola describes which linguistic features he chose for the Rowling analysis, discloses the authors he selected for comparison, and explains what his results really mean.
