Nicholas Lord passed away on March 1, 2024, at the age of 66. He was a Teacher of Mathematics at the Tonbridge School in Kent, England and a member of the MAA for 39 years.

Team USA Returns to First Place in Olympics of High School Math

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. team won first place for the third time in four years at the 59th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) which took place in Cluj-Napoca, Romania on July 3-14, 2018, with 116 countries participating. Prior to a fourth place finish in 2017, the U.S.

Top High School Math Olympians Announced by MAA American Mathematics Competitions

WASHINGTON, DC - Nineteen top high school math students were honored June 4 during a ceremony in Washington, D.C. More than 300,000 students participated in the MAA American Mathematics Competitions (AMC), organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) which culminates in the USA Mathematical Olympiad, the final invitational exam in a challenging series of MAA AMC competitions.

MAA Supports Summer Math Research for Underrepresented Groups

Washington, D.C. -- The Mathematical Association of America announced $324,018 in funding for 10 colleges and universities to offer a summer research experience with a stipend for students from historically underrepresented groups in mathematics as part of the Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement program. The National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program is supported by the National Science Foundation (DMS-1652506).

MAA Announces $70,000 in Dolciani Foundation Funding to Support Pre-College Math Students

Washington, D.C. – The Mathematical Association of America, on behalf of the Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation, awarded $70,000 in funding to 16 organizations to develop mathematical enrichment programs for talented students in middle school or high school.

MAA Funds 42 Campuses to Prepare Math Students for Careers in Industry

Washington, D.C. – The Mathematical Association of America announces funding for 42 colleges and universities to offer a course that challenges students to use math to solve an industrial research problem as part of the MAA Preparation for Industrial Careers in Mathematical Sciences (PIC Math) program.
