Volumes 1-100 of the Monthly now on JSTOR

One Hundred Years of the Monthly
Now on JSTOR

The entire content of volumes 1-100 (1894-1993) of the American Mathematical Monthly is now available online at the JSTOR archive. Each year, one more volume will be added to the archive, so that all but the most recent five years will be available at all times.

The Monthly joins 116 other journals in 15 disciplines in JSTOR's current list. JSTOR is a non-profit organization whose initial funding was provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; its ongoing support comes from participating institutions and libraries, who in turn provide online access to the JSTOR archive for their members, students, and faculty. Among its goals is "To build a reliable and comprehensive archive of important scholarly journal literature." Archived journals are searchable and high-quality graphic images of pages can be viewed and/or printed.

JSTOR participants can access JSTOR and either browse or search the journals. For example, readers interested in what the Monthly has had to say about "Fenchel's theorem" over the years will find 67 instances of "Fenchel" in volumes 1-100; clicking on the links returned by the search produces a citation of the article, or the first page containing the term in that article.

Access to JSTOR is normally obtained through participating institutions and libraries. Since not all MAA members belong to participating institutions, the MAA is offering individual access to the JSTOR archive of the American Mathematical Monthly for a $25 annual fee (on a calendar year basis).
