The MAA/Department Liaisons Program links the MAA with mathematics departments across the nation. Built on the former “department representative” program, this program establishes an important two-way communication link between departments and the MAA. Through regular emails to Liaisons, MAA shares information about MAA's many services and programs, including new publications, electronic services, professional development activities, programs for students, women and minorities, and meetings. Liaisons are asked to distribute this information to their department colleagues and to respond with comments and suggestions from them for ways the MAA can better serve their departments.

Another important goal of the MAA Liaisons Program is to strengthen the ties between departments and MAA Sections. Section officers are informed of the names and addresses of the MAA Department Liaisons within their Sections so they can communicate directly with Liaisons on matters of importance to the Sections. Some sections link Liaisons electronically, and others bring Liaisons together at Section meetings. Each Section has its own Liaison Coordinator.
The goal of the MAA/Department Liaison Program is to have every member of a mathematical sciences department in the US and Canada connected to a Liaison, in order to facilitate effective two-way communication. To learn more about the program, please review the Liaison Responsibilities.
To designate or update the Liaison contact for your department, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Questions about the program or suggestions to improve its effectiveness may be directed to Cal Van Niewaal, chair of the MAA Committee on Departmental Liaisons.
