Title: Modeling Membrane Conductance Dependence on Channel Protein State

Director(s): Brett Sims

Email: simsb@gram.edu

Dates of Program: June 4-July 13, 2007

Summary: This summer research program at Grambling State University (GSU) will give four undergraduate students the opportunity to study and perform an interdisciplinary research in modeling practices for building deterministic models of bioelectric phenomena in excitable tissue. Students will continue developmental work on previous research involving a new model for ionic flux of the form

The new model will describe the influence of the Tryptophan protein dipole located in the Gramicidin side-chain on the ion conductance through the Gramicidin channel.

The four member student research team will consist of mathematics, mathematics/chemistry, biology, and computer science majors.
