Lamar University

Title: Investigating the G-Graph of a Group

Director(s): Jennifer Daniel

Email: jennifer.daniel@lamar.edu

Dates of Program: May 21-June 29, 2007

Summary: Prior to the start date, the director will prepare documents reviewing the basics of both group and graph theory. The director will also compile a list of open problems for the participants.

During the first week of the program, the participants will review all the necessary aspects of both group and graph theory and begin exploring the G-graph of a group. The director will introduce the open questions and ask the students to choose a couple on which to concentrate. The entire program (participants and director) will work together on solving open questions in this area and gaining more insight into the nature of the object.

In addition to studying an exciting branch of mathematics, the students will learn the LaTeX document preparation software, will write a report on their research, and will present a poster and/or give a talk discussing their work at either:

  1. The Southern Regional Algebra Conference at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana, September, 28-30 2007,
  2. The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas on November 3, 2007, or
  3. The MAA Texas Section meeting at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas in April 2008.
