Dates of
Program: June 2 - July 14, 2010
Summary:
The focus of this summer project is to introduce undergraduate mathematics students to undergraduate research centered on properties of the Riordan group with applications to RNA secondary structure prediction. The students will study and research basic concepts, properties, and applications of the Riordan group. Some of the concepts covered will be subgroup, semi-direct product, group homomorphism, centralizer, stabilizer, and quotient group. An application of the Riordan group will be applied to molecular and computational biology and involves using elements of the Riordan group to model RNA secondary sequences. Bioinformatics programming tools will also be used to predict stable RNA secondary sequences.
