Summary:
Participants will receive an introduction to core concepts in probability and statistics. These ideas will then be applied to the analysis and characterization of RNGs. Simultaneously, participants will receive training with the R statistical computing software. Participants will be given exercises to expand their understanding of the material. Participants will select a research topic and begin work towards formulating their question. Participants will work closely with their faculty advisors to refine their question. Additional seminars will be offered on making effective presentations and applying for graduate studies. During the final component of the REU, participants will begin work to resolve their question. At the beginning of week 5, each participant will make a brief presentation of their work in progress. The conclusion of the REU will feature presentations of their final work.
