Title: Solutions of Boundary Value Problems in Differential Equations

Director(s): Aprillya Lanz

Email: aprillyalanz@clayton.edu

Dates of Program: May 30 - July 11, 2006

Summary: In participating in this summer project, students will learn different types of boundary value problems and different methods of finding solutions. Using theorems studied in the Calculus sequences, participants will explore fundamental concepts in differential equations and learn how to apply certain conditions to show the existence and/or uniqueness of solutions.

Introductory lectures will be given to provide students with topics for their own study. They are expected to become an expert of at least one method to show the existence and uniqueness of boundary value problems. Each student will explore different types of boundary value problems and apply methods to show the uniqueness and existence of solutions. Students are expected to share their results during the regular daily group meetings for discussion with their peers. They are also expected to report their progress individually to the project director. Students will write a report on their project results which will be presented in the Math Colloquium.
