Delaware State University

Title: Bifurcations and Chaos in One-Dimensional Discrete Dynamical Systems (BaC)

Director(s): Mazen Shahin and Elena Surovyatkina

Email: mshahin@desu.edu

Dates of Program: July 3 - August 10, 2006

Summary: Delaware State University will host a six-week MAA-SUMMA National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (NREUP). Prof. Mazen Shahin and Prof. Elena Surovyatkina have recruited four African American student researchers from Delaware State University to conduct research in nonlinear dynamics under their supervision. The project will focus on the theoretical and numerical investigations of the general properties of one-dimensional dynamical systems with bifurcational transitions. This research program is designed to provide the students with a challenging and exciting research experience that would encourage them to pursue advanced graduate degrees in mathematics and to seek academic or industrial careers.
