PMET is based on a combination of need
and interest in meeting that need.
The mathematical education of teachers
must become a high priority for most mathematics departments,
with commensurate allocation of departmental resources and intellectual
investment. PMET will pursue connections and activities to produce
the systemic impact needed to achieve this priority status for teacher
education. There is growing interest among college and university mathematicians to do more to help improve school mathematics teaching. PMET will help nurture and support this interest by providing a broad array of educational, organizational and financial assistance to mathematicians. "All mathematicians should be concerned about teacher education, and all have a role to play in the mathematical education of teachers." ---MET report |
