Activities and Projects
Goal I: Improve the Praxis scores of the undergraduate and graduate students
- Activity 1: Utilize the Praxis Laboratory in the School of Educationon a weekly basis which will be supervised with a graduate student aide. Progress Update: Identified graduate student and made a tentative weekly schedule for the Praxis Laboratory.
- Activity 2: Set up a Praxis Resource Center in the School of Education. Progress Update: Identified Praxis Resources such as the Praxis Series Study Guides and the Praxis Diagnostic Preparation materials
- Activity 3: Expand course syllabi focusing on Mathematics Praxis Items for the following courses: MATH 115 – Mathematics for Elementary Teachers, MATH 210 – Geometry for Elementary Teachers, ELED 314 – Teaching Mathematics in Elementary School. Progress Update: Revisions in course syllabi will be made in Spring 2005.
- Activity 4: Give Praxis Pre-tests to prepare for Praxis I. Progress Update: Identified tentative test date for February 2005.
Goal II: Strengthen the mathematic skills of the undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates
- Activity 1: Orientation Workshop for faculty discussing the mathematics skills that are tested on Praxis I and share Praxis materials. Progress Update: Identified tentative workshop date for October 2004.
- Activity 2: Planning Sessions for strategies that the team will implementfor improving mathematical skills of teacher candidates. Progress Update: Identified tentative planning session date for November 2004.
- Activity 3: Workshops that will inform faculty and teacher candidates of county and state requirements so that teacher candidates will be betterprepared to teach K-12 mathematics. Progress Update: Identified tentative workshop dates for December 2004 and Spring of 2005
