Professional Development

  • Career Information - If you're considering a career in the mathematical sciences, or a closely-related field, these pages have all the information you need.
  • Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) - The Professional Enhancement Program offers a range of workshops to support growth for mathematicians at all stages of their careers. It enables those working in the mathematical sciences to respond to rapid developments in the field.
  • New Experiences in Teaching (Project NExT) - Project NExT is a year-long professional development opportunity for new or recent Ph.D.s in the mathematical sciences. It aliresses all aspects of an academic career: improving skills in teaching mathematics, engaging in research and scholarship, and opportunities to engage with the mathematics community. It also provides the participants with an ongoing network of peers and mentors as they assume these responsibilities.
  • Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers (PMET) - Growing calls for better preparation of the nation's mathematics teachers prompted the MAA to create PMET, Preparing Mathematicians to Educate Teachers, which ran from 2003 to 2009 and was a multi-dimensional program aimed at ensuring that mathematics teachers and faculty have access to the best resources and pedagogical methods to stimulate interest in mathematics amongst students.
  • Teaching and Learning - The MAA is dedicated to developing and disseminating materials on the best teaching practices to enhance students' learning. The Teaching and Learning section provides useful and thoughtful articles about teaching mathematics.
