Calculus: Online and Interactive

Calculus: Online and Interactive

Lang Moore, David Smith
June 25 - 29, 2007
Online from Duke University, Durham, NC

Registration for the workshop is now closed.

This online workshop is designed to acquaint participants with online interactive calculus materials being developed by the organizers as part of the NSF-funded MAA project, MathDL Books Online, NSF Grant DUE-231083.

The workshop include:

  • an overview of the materials
  • plans for using the materials
  • suggestions for working with online materials
  • discussion of homework and testing issues
  • incorporation of modules from the Connected Curriculum Project

There will be opportunities for structured investigations of the materials, general discussions, and individual online consultations.

The online materials represent a second edition of materials published as Calculus: Modeling and Application. You can view the materials at www.math.duke.edu/education/calculustext/.

A one-variable calculus course based on these materials is currently being tested at Hood College. The workshop will be valuable for anyone interested in using online interactive materials for a calculus course, but we also hope to recruit some workshop participants to site-test the materials at their home institutions. Thus we encourage teams from one school or neighboring schools to apply. All members of a team should be in the same physical location during the workshop.

In addition to a reasonably up-to-date computer with a fast internet connection, each participant will need to have access to headphones, a microphone, and an inexpensive web camera.
