This workshop is designed to acquaint faculty with the recently developed modeling software, DIY Modeling, which allows users to develop game-quality, immersive, 3D simulations. Participants will become familiar with the DIY software, evaluate existing classroom DIY simulations, and construct their own student projects. The preparatory component includes an introductory exploration of the software using tutorials and reading pedagogical articles on the best practices in technological education investigations. The intensive component involves a four and a half day workshop in Cocoa Beach, Florida and includes a special VIP tour of the Kennedy Space Center. Interdisciplinary faculty teams are encouraged to apply.
The DIY software was developed by a collaborative group of mathematicians and physicists from six diverse institutions with support from NSF DUE- 0919264.
