The MAA's Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) offers mathematicians the opportunity to improve their skills and boost their careers. Whether you're just starting your career and looking for new ideas for research and teaching, or you've been teaching for years and need strategies to manage your department, PREP has something for you.
PREP enables mathematicians to respond to the latest developments in mathematics. It offers extended professional development experiences with active participant involvement, expert leadership, and the support to effectively make use of what you learn. PREP workshops are designed to serve mathematics faculty from all types of institutions, as well as mathematicians working in other sectors, such as business and government. To add value, each workshop extends over preparatory and on-going components, which continue your learning experience for months before and after the intensive portion.
PREP is a project of the MAA, partially funded by National Science Foundation grant DUE-0817071. PREP programs are equally open to all mathematicians, regardless of whether they are members of the MAA or any other professional organization. Although most PREP participants have traditionally been faculty in the mathematical sciences, those from other sectors and disciplines are especially encouraged to participate. Their perspectives enrich each workshop by adding a broad range of experiences to draw on.
The registration fee covers the cost of lodging during the workshop, as well as some, but not all, of the cost of food. Payment must accompany registration.
In response to financial difficulties that caused many universities to cut back on funds to support faculty travel, the MAA has allocated funds to support a limited number of travel grants for PREP applicants who demonstrate that their participation in PREP workshops will result in activities at their home institution that are recognized as immediately relevant and of value to the department. If you would like to apply for a PREP travel grant, you will be able to do it when registering for the workshop.
