Dates of Program: June 10 - August 16, 2013
Summary:
Project 1. Randić Connectivity Indices of Graphs
Project 2. Graph Theory Applications in Modeling Evolution of Chagas Disease Vectors
The students in this program work in two groups on two very well related projects. The first project is on Graph Connectivity Indices of certain types of graphs derived from chemistry and biology problems. The focus is on finding patterns and graph theoretic properties of the indices and the connectedness of the considered graphs. The second group applies the graph index method to analyze DNA sequence data of Chagas Disease obtained from biological labs aiming to better understand the evolutionary relationships of the insect vectors. Different types of graph connectivity indices are applied to build phylogenetic trees from the data in order to answer relevant scientific questions about the disease.
