About the Author: (from American Mathematics Monthly, Vol. 94, (1987), Barry Cipra received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Maryland in 1980. He has been an instructor at M.I.T. and at the Ohio State University, and is currently an assistant professor of mathematics at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. He is the author of Misteaks and How to Find Them Before the Teacher Does, published by Birkhauser Boston.
