About the Author: Carl B. Allendoerfer (1911-1974) was at the University of Washington at the time of the award. He was editor of the American Mathematical Monthly (1952-1956) and President of the MAA in 1959-60. After his death the Association established the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for authors of expository papers appearing in Mathematics Magazine.
