About the Author: (from Mathematics Magazine, Vol. 67 (1994)) Lee Badger started life on a farm in the green hills of northern Missouri. After studying logic and foundations at the University of Colorado, and after much mountain climbing, he focused his energy on teaching undergraduate mathematics. This work on Lazzarini started as a simple Math Club talk on the Buffon Needle Problem and exemplfies his belief that the most interesting studies combine several different areas of mathematics and are spiced with history. Today, Dr. Badger's interests include the environment, farming, philosphy, and poetry, and he studies natural resource modeling.  He is a professor at Weber State University.
