About the Author: (from The College Mathematics Journal, Vol. 12, No. 2, (1981)) John Mitchem is Professor of Mathematics and Chairman of the Mathematics Department at San Jose State University where he has been since receiving his Ph.D. in 1970 from Western Michigan University. His research has been in graph theory including various coloring problems, but he has not worked on the Four-Color Problem.
