MAA Grants

While the MAA is not a grant-making organization, we administer a variety of programs funded by public and private sources that provide funding to support activities that help advance the Association's goals. Some of these programs are ongoing, while some may only be funded for a few years:

Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grants (DMEG) support projects designed to develop mathematical enrichment programs for talented students in middle or high school.
 
National Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (NREUP) supports the participation of mathematics undergraduates from underrepresented groups in focused and challenging research experiences to increase their interest in advanced degrees and careers in mathematics.
 
Professional Enhancement Program (PREP) offers extended professional development experiences that are designed to serve mathematics faculty from all types of institutions, as well as mathematicians working in other sectors, such as business and government.
 
Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Conferences (RUMC) program provides support for institutions or groups of institutions that wish to initiate or expand undergraduate mathematics conferences.
 
Tensor Grants for Women and Mathematics support projects designed to encourage college and university women or high school and middle school girls to study mathematics.
 
Tensor-SUMMA Grants: Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement support programs designed to encourage pursuit and enjoyment of mathematics among middle school students, high school students, and/or beginning college students from groups traditionally under-represented in the field of mathematics.
Travel Grants for Undergraduates to attend MAA National Meetings. Students can receive up to $500 to cover travel and lodging expenses if they are presenting at MathFest or the Joint Mathematics Meetings.
Preparation for Industrial Careers in the Mathematical Sciences (PIC Math) prepares mathematical sciences students for industrial careers by engaging them in research problems that come directly from industry. Faculty apply to attend a workshop and teach a course that prepares students for a competition.
 
The MAA and the mathematical sciences community at large depend on many sources for maintaining a broad and vibrant range of activities. Ideas for new programs and potential initiatives, including sources to obtain funding, are welcome and should be directed to the appropriate MAA Committee. Alternatively, concepts or draft proposals can be directed to any officer of the MAA or to Linda Braddy, MAA Deputy Executive Director.
