Biography

Thyrsa Frazier Svager is a graduate of Antioch College. She was employed for one year each as a statistical analyst at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and as an instructor at Texas Southern University in Houston, and since 1954 has been a member of the faculty of Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. Both her M.A. and Ph.D. were awarded by Ohio State University in Columbus, the latter in 1965 under the direction of Paul Reichelderfer. Her dissertation was "On [the Product of] Absolutely Continuous Transformations of Measure Spaces." Her other publications include "On Strong Differentiability," whose abstract appeared in this MONTHLY in 1967, and two books: "Modern Elementary Algebra Workbook," Wm. C. Brown, 1969, and "Essential Mathematics for College Freshmen," Kendall-Hunt, 1976. Her current research interest is computer applications of number theory. Since 1966 she has been a professor and department chairman at Central State. [Svager retired in 1993 from full time professional employment.]
