Project ACCCESS
Advancing Community College Careers: Education, Scholarship, Service

Project ACCCESS is a mentoring and professional development initiative for two-year college mathematics faculty. The goal is to provide experiences that will help new faculty become more effective teachers and active members of the mathematical community.

Beginning with the 2004-05 academic year, Project ACCCESS "classes" of Fellows have participated in a program jointly developed by The American Mathematical Association of America (AMATYC) and The Mathematical Association of America (MAA). This site contains information for those three cohorts.

Beginning with the 2007-08 class, Project ACCCESS will be administered by AMATYC. The MAA plans to continue efforts to engage ACCCESS Fellows through Section meetings and other targeted outreach. For information about AMATYC plans for the program’s future, click here.

Project ACCCESS Fellows have gained knowledge of the culture and mission of the two-year-college and its students, acquired familiarity with the scholarship of teaching, continued to learn mathematics, and participated actively in professional societies.

The first three classes of ACCCESS Fellows participated in consecutive AMATYC national meetings and an MAA Section meeting. At the AMATYC conferences, Fellows have participated in programs developed particularly for new faculty and in regular conference activities. At their local MAA Section meetings, they have joined in Section NExT activities as well as the regular meetings.

An electronic network links ACCCESS Fellows with each other and with consulting colleagues, a group of distinguished mathematics educators. As part of their professional development during the Fellowship year, Fellows have developed, implemented, and evaluated a project at their home institutions. In addition to learning and networking opportunities, Fellows have received one-year memberships in AMATYC and MAA and a selection of resource and reference materials for their professional libraries.
