The MAA sponsors an annual series of mathematics competitions called the American Mathematics Competitions. The AMC is offered in two versions, one for students in grade 10 and below, and one open to students in grade 12 and below. Each exam is given on two separate testing dates so there are a total of four exams for each year. To simplify the grading process, the problems are presented in multiple choice format.

The ninth volume in this series contains problems and solutions for the AMC 12 exams from the years from 2000 to 2007. For each exam, a table lists the frequency of answers submitted by the contestants. This makes it possible to identify particularly hard and easy problems on each exam. The authors have also included an index that makes it easy to find problems on particular topics. This book will be valuable as a source of practice problems for students preparing for the AMC 12. Some of the more challenging problems might also be appropriate for college students preparing for the Putnam Competetion.

Brian Borchers is a professor of Mathematics at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. His interests are in optimization and applications of optimization in parameter estimation and inverse problems.
