Adrienne Kemp seems to have taken over the editorship of this magnificent book, well known from its two earlier editions.  The book provides a tremendous service to the statistical professions and other users of statistics.  The many discrete probability distributions were developed over centuries and appeared in a variety of publications, and now they are gathered in one volume.

Kemp manages to do justice to the earlier editions and at the same time provide new and important information.  There is an increase in the coverage of certain areas and a new emphasis on interrelationships between distributions.  There is an addition of over 400 new references, showing there is continued development going on in the field.  The book contains chapters on all the well-known discrete distributions as well as lesser-known dis-tributions.

This is an important book that should be part of every statistician's library.

Gudmund R. Iversen received his PhD in statistics from Harvard University and taught at The University of Michigan and Swarthmore College, from which he has retired.
