A Conic Section Passing Through Five Points

This applet demonstrates that a conic section may be drawn that passes through five given points.

In the applet, you may click and drag the points A, B, C, D, and E; a conic section that passes through these points will be drawn. The equation of the conic section will be displayed in standard general form and in simplified form (when possible).
