MAA Student Chapters
The MAA Student Chapters program was launched in January 1989 to encourage students to continue study in the mathematical sciences, provide opportunities to meet with other students interested in mathematics, interact with prominent mathematicians at national meetings, and provide career information in the mathematical sciences. There are no scholastic requirements, and students need not be mathematics majors.
Benefits of Starting a Student Chapter at your school
- Provide your students with all of the great MAA member benefits, including discounts on MAA publications, for a very low rate.
- Receive timely information regarding special activities for students at section and national meetings.
- Stay on top of events and get great ideas for local program activities with the MAA's Student Chapter Newsletter.
There is no cost to start a student chapter at your school, but your chapter's students must be active members of the MAA. The cost of membership for undergraduate students is only $30 per year and includes a copy of Math Horizons magazine and the MAA's newsletter, FOCUS. Students can also choose to receive either or both of the MAA's acclaimed journals, The College Mathematics Journal or Mathematics Magazine, for only $36 extra for each journal they select. Undergraduate Students must fill out the Undergraduate Student Membership Form and return it to the MAA. Members whose applications are received in October or November will begin to receive membership benefits immediately and throughout the following year. Members whose applications are received in the first half of the year will be sent all back journal issues to the beginning of the year.
To start a chapter at your school, or to affiliate your existing math club with the MAA, the faculty advisor can download the Chapter Application Form, complete it, and return it to: MAA Service Center, P.O. Box 90973, Washington, DC 20090-0973. The scope of the student chapter at your school is limited only by the imagination and effort you choose to put into it. Each year, the advisor will receive the previous year's membership roster together with blank forms for new members.
