In 1998, the Benjamin Banneker Association (BBA) and the Strengthening Underrepresented Minority Mathematics Achievement (SUMMA) Program of the Mathematical Association of America announced a special pricing program offered by Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) on its reconditioned graphing calculators. We are happy to announce the extension of this innovative program designed to make it easier for schools to address the technology needs and enrich the curriculum of minority and/or economically disadvantaged students.
This program offers very attractive pricing on reconditioned TI-83 Plus graphing calculators. Note that all prices shown are "per calculator" prices. These products, sold in teacher packages, are reconditioned to like-new operation and appearance, and are covered by TI's one-year limited warranty. Each teacher package contains 10 reconditioned calculators, batteries, manuals and unit-to-unit link cables, as well as a classroom poster. Calculators are for classroom use and may not be resold.
The deadline for applications to be received by SUMMA is November 15, 2008.
Who can participate
Any grade 6-16 school or school district (with the following exceptions) may
apply to BBA/SUMMA to receive approval to obtain specially-priced reconditioned
calculators provided at least 50% of the students to be served are minority
and/or economically disadvantaged. Any technology-based professional
development project may also apply provided at least 50% of the target
population to be served are minority. (Professional development projects may
purchase single units instead of teacher packages).

The Benjamin Banneker Association is a non-profit professional organization concerned about the mathematics education of African-American children. The Mathematical Association of America is a non-profit professional organization focused on undergraduate mathematics education; its SUMMA Program deals with increasing the participation of minorities in mathematics, science and engineering. BBA and SUMMA are involved in this initiative on a voluntary basis because of our concern for enhancing access to technology for minority and/or economically disadvantaged students.
We look forward to your participation in this excellent opportunity.
Sincerely,
