This workshop is intended for faculty and graduate students who will teach undergraduate geometry courses, such as those typically attended by future or inservice teachers. Participants will experience a learning and teaching environment that is innovative both in terms of content and in terms of teaching methods. The content will be the integration of geometries on plane, sphere, and other surfaces, presented through problems which emphasize the meanings in the geometry through student investigations, small group learning, and writing assignments. The workshop will also explore historical problems in geometry and their impact on the development of geometric ideas (we will include a visit to Cornell's collection of rare books and manuscripts related to mathematics). In addition, there will be seminars and interactive presentations on topics related to the workshop theme.
