Summer Education Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math) SEE-Math is a two week, half day summer program. Each grade studies a particular topic. For example, in 2005, 6th graders studied Cartan and Cauchy Groups, 7th graders studies the Hilbert Group, and 8th graders studied the Descartes group. There was also an optional class for all grades on computer animation using Maple. Website: http://www.math.tamu.edu/outreach/SEE-Math Type of Program: Summer Target Group: Middle School
Science: It's A Girl Thing Science: It's A Girl Thing offers three separate one-week residential camps, each devoted to a particular grade level. This camp is designed to excite young females' interests in science and mathematics and addresses a range of topics in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and several branches of engineering. The camp has been running for about ten years and this year approximately 300 young girls participated in the program. Website:

Type of Program: Summer program Target Group: K-12 Girls
MASTER IT Mathematics and Science to Explore caReers-Investing Together is a one-week summer residential program at Emporia State University held in June each year. MASTER iT targets young women in the state of Kansas who have completed seventh or eighth grade. This program includes hands-on investigations of mathematical and scientific concepts and career discussions led by university women faculty and women professionals from industry. The group also makes a variety of field trips which might include visiting a nuclear power plant, go on a fossil dig, have a star gazing evening, or visiting the Kansas Cosmosphere. The charge for this summer camp is $250. The program has been subsided by small grants. Several need-based scholarships are available. For more information, contact Dr. Marvin Harrell at harrellm@emporia.edu, or Dr. Betsy Yanik at yanikeli@emporia.edu. Type of Program: Summer Target Group: Middle School
Mathematics Summer Camp The Mathematics Summer Camp is a two week, half day program for advanced high school students with a good knowledge of algebra 1, algebra 2, and geometry. In 2005 students learned some of the basic ideas of matrices, linear algebra, linear transformations, and their relations to various ideas from geometry. Math Week at Meredith Math Week at Meredith is a one-week residential summer camp for girls entering the 10th grade. The program consists of morning mathematics sessions, afternoon field-trips, and a career panel, and evening leisure activities. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Each summer we have sponsored multiple (usually 3) REUs in such topics as wavelets, mathematical biology, and computational algebra. By partnering with schools with traditionally large Balck and Hispanic populations, we hope to increase the participation of Blacks, Hispanics, and women.
