Programs for Young Women

Summer Programs

  • MASTER IT

    Mathematics and Science To Explore caReers - Investing Together (MASTER IT) targets young women in the state of Kansas who have completed seventh or eighth grade, and is held over one week at Emporia State University in June each year. It includes hands-on investigations of mathematical and scientific concepts, and makes a variety of field trips to places like a nuclear power plant or the Kansas Cosmosphere.

  • Math Week at Meredith

    Math Week at Meredith is a one-week residential summer camp for girls entering the 10th grade. The program consists of morning mathematics sessions, afternoon field-trips, and a career panel, and evening leisure activities.

  • Summer Education Enrichment in Math (SEE-Math)

    SEE-Math is a two week, half day summer program, where students from each grade studies a particular topic.

  • Summer Workshop in Mathematics (SWIM)

    SWIM is a 9-day workshop for rising high school seniors interested in mathematics, who would like to find out more about pursuing a math major at Princeton.

  • Texas A&M Research Expressions for Undergraduates (REU)

    Each summer Texas A&M sponsors multiple REUs in such topics as wavelets, mathematical biology, and computational algebra. By partnering with schools with large African-American and Hispanic populations, we hope to increase the participation of African Americans, Hispanics, and women.

Mentoring Programs

  • Women and Mathematics Mentoring Program

    The purpose of this program is to make 8th grade girls more aware of the different careers that use mathematics, science, and technology, and to encourage the girls to begin preparing for such careers in high school by enrolling in higher-level mathematics courses.

One Day Conferences

  • Expanding Your Horizons

    Emporia State University hosts the Expanding Your Horizons conference every March. This day-long conference is designed to expose girls in middle school to a variety of math and science careers and activities. Over 50 female professionals from across Kansas volunteer their time to lead career discussions and hands-on workshops. Each year there are two major presentations made by two prominent women scientists. There is also an adult program for teachers and parents.

  • GE2McS

    Girls Excited about Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (GE2McS) combines day-long programs with hands-on workshops for middle and high school students and their teachers and guidance counselors. Saturday morning sessons are also offered, and are geared toward students and parents.

  • Math Options

    Math Options is a math and science career day for young women at Penn State Abington. The goal of Math Options is to interest young women to continue studying mathematics and science and to pursue careers involving mathematics, the sciences, technology, and engineering by offering role models and mentors.
