MAA Found Math 2010 - Week 24

FOUND MATH: Taken by Li Zhou (Polk) in the Hungarian Pavillion of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo this photo showcases a Gömböc. Zhou described a Gömböc as, "a 3-D homogeneous solid which has one stable and one unstable equilibrium point when resting on a horizontal plane. Its existence was conjectured by V. Arnold in 1995 and proven in 2006 by Hungarian scientists Gábor Domokos and Péter Várkonyi." Read more about the Gömböc here.
