Gardner's Legacy Lives at G4G 11
In a guest blog for Scientific American, Dana Richards (a.k.a. George Groth) gives a taste of the 11th Gathering for [Martin] Gardner, which convened in Atlanta in late March.
Richards relates how Tadashi Tokieda mesmerized the attending mathematicians, magicians, artists, and puzzle fanatics by rolling cylinders down a ramp and hints at the diversity of artistic and music-related presentations included in the four-day event.
Richards emphasizes the sense of wonder promoted by the gathering, how participants feel part of a community, and how that community does not regard mathematics and fun as in any way in opposition.
